Asurio Company History
Asurio, Inc. was founded in 2007 to provide life safety inspection software to speed the facility inspection process, and improve safety & compliance. The company received early-stage investment funding, began the development process, and introduced the first version of the BirdDog Life Safety Inspection System in early 2010.


Asurio saw another milestone in 2010, when Top Myers joined Asurio as president, bringing a wealth of knowledge and decades of experience in the fire life safety world. Mr. Myers has served on the NFPA 25 committee since the day it was founded. He also helps develop & finalize fire code changes as a voting member of NFPA 72 and NFPA 915 standards committees. Asurio continued its growth, while continuing to enhance the BirdDog Inspection & Data Collection System.
In 2019, Asurio introduced a major new version of BirdDog Life Safety Inspection & Data Collection Software.
The following features were added in this software upgrade:
- New integrated platform that combines administrative & field tech functions
- Support for Microsoft, Android & Apple tablets
- New field tech interface that’s easier to learn & use
- New levels of cybersecurity with the software platform now living in the Microsoft Azure cloud
- New digital inspection forms with more options for field techs
- New application program interface for developers who want to incorporate inspection functions into software they’re developing
In 2020, Asurio achieved several more milestones:
- Extinquisher Tracker Introduced: The Asurio development team introduced Extinguisher Tracker – powerful new fire extinguisher inspection, tracking & maintenance software embedded in the BirdDog Inspection System.
- New Management Team Member: Asurio added another strong leader to its management team with the addition of Jack Coffelt, who was named General Manager. Mr. Coffelt is known for his expertise in fire life safety, both from the supplier side and the contractor side of the industry.
With strong leadership & ongoing software enhancements, the BirdDog Life Safety Inspection System has become the most powerful, versatile inspection & data collection system on the market today.

Top Myers
Top is active in many Fire sprinkler industry associations and Risk Management initiatives. He has been an active member of the NFPA 25 since its inception over 40 years ago. Top Myers is also Principal in the largest insurance / risk management company for the US sprinkler industry. He travels the US often to testify as an expert witness for F&LS contractors in liability lawsuits. He presents at national and regional conventions regularly on risk management issues. Top and his team understand in detail how an inspection management system needs to protect you and your clients against potential liabilities.

Jack Coffelt
With more than 30 years of experience in the Fire Life Safety industry, Jack Coffelt brings extensive, practical knowledge across all the different Fire Life Safety Inspection disciplines – Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler & Fire Suppression Systems, Fire Pumps, and more – to his role as General Manager for Asurio, Inc.
Prior to joining Asurio, Inc., Mr. Coffelt served as a Fire Life Safety contractor for 20+ years, including leadership roles in Fire Life Safety positi9ons at Siemens, Potter Electric Signals Company, Affiliated Computer Systems; Security Fire Systems; Honeywell’s Fire Alarm Division; Simplex-Grinnell; and Kidde-Fenwall. He also served as a Fire & Security Technician in the U.S. Navy for 10 years.
Jack currently is participating in the NICET Fire Protection Advisory Committee (National Institute for Certifying Engineering Trades).
Jack earned a NICET Level IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems, a NICET Level II in Water Based Fire Protection Testing and Inspection, and he holds a Texas APS license. Jack is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), and holds a Texas Fire Alarm Planning Superintendent License.

Ernie Christiansen
Ernie has overseen the development of the BirdDog Mobile Inspection System, and plays a key role in Asurio’s cloud architecture and cybersecurity. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from Michigan State University.

Courtney DeWinter

Laura Skidgel
Laura Skidgel brings decades of experience to the table for Asurio and its customers, both in the specifics of the BirdDog Life Safety Inspection System and in training and technical support skills.
In her role as Manager of Technical Support, she supervises Asurio’s customer support technicians; manages staffing for Asurio’s customer support operation; and manages the BirdDog Inspection System’s continuing education program for customers.
Laura has worked in a variety of roles for Asurio, most recently as the Inspection Forms & Reports Manager, where she oversaw the development & updating of NFPA inspection forms and inspection report functions. She also served as the Training Manager in the early days of Asurio, and traveled extensively, teaching Asurio customers how to use the BirdDog Inspection & Data Collection System.
Prior to joining Asurio, Laura served as a trainer in the U.S. Air Force, and also has additional years of experience teaching adults. She earned an Associate’s degree in business.






John Tworek
John has a degree in Network Administration as well as A+ Certification. He is a top quality software developer and knee deep in the development of BirdDog.


Troy Geiser
Troy heads up Asurio’s Customer Success Program & Customer Training Program, which are designed to help Asurio customers maximize their use of BirdDog Inspection & Data Collection Software. Troy has 30+ years of experience in various aspects of technology – from development, testing & project management to sales & training. He earned an Information Systems degree from University of Colorado-Boulder. A Colorado native, Troy and his family relocated to the southeastern United States.






Ben Tworek
Ben has been providing friendly, helpful tech support for Asurio customers since 2014. Prior to joining Asurio, he served in supervisory and management positions for a variety of manufacturing & tech companies. Ben is particularly suited for his role as a customer support rep, as he finds great satisfaction in helping customers maximize their use of the BirdDog Inspection System.






Chris Wilson
Chris Wilson – BirdDog Tech Support
Chris joined Asurio in 2016 to provide tech support for the BirdDog Life Safety Inspection System. Prior to joining Asurio, he worked in a variety of logistics & JIT administration roles for several Fortune 1000 companies. Chris says the best part of his job is when customers show great excitement after he provides tech support, and they learn more about using the full power of the BirdDog Life Safety Inspection System.






Lotfi Saibi
Lotfi is our International Support Contact and establishes a presence in the Middle East and North Africa region. He is a graduate of both Harvard University and University of Mass. Lotfi lives & works in Tunisia.


Dan Swires
Dan is a CPA and Asurio CFO. His family includes a wife, three grown children, and an Australian Shepherd.


Justin Swires
Justin is Assistant to the CFO and handles accounting and finance for Asurio. He married his college sweetheart in 2009 and enjoys snowboarding, kayaking, camping, and other outdoor activities.


Jessica Hull
In this role, Jessica handles many & varied administrative services for Asurio, including managing Asurio’s Microsoft & Azure accounts & licensing, administrative operations for the company & more. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening & caring for her 3 cats.
